Grant Applications Due Feb. 1, 2020

The path to tenure for an assistant professor can be a rat race.

Looking at a 2017 report from the Commission on Public Relations Education, almost a third of PR educators make up that group who might fall into the pre-tenure demographic. CPRE reported 13% of their respondents had 1-5 years in a teaching position, and 23% had 6-10 years.

You’re not alone, assistant professors.

Some say you need big grants to get tenure. But research is expensive, and grants are increasingly competitive. Add that to the fact that just aren’t a lot of PR research funding opportunities.

This winter the Broom Center is doing its part to give you a boost. As a part of our new Broom Initiative campaign, the center wants to invest in tenure-track assistant professors.

We want to give you money.

Let the Broom Center fund a Qualtrics panel to help make your sample more generalizable. Let us purchase lab equipment your department chair said can’t be funded right now. Let us boost your research program by helping you get access to the resources you need.

Applications are now open through Feb. 1, 2020 for grants from the Broom Center. We are funding small seed grants up to $500. We will directly purchase the items for
you. The grant application includes:

• Contact information
• Budget and items requested
• Short 400-word description of your study (theory, impact on PR)
• Your cv
