The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) requires that all ACEJMC-accredited programs make publicly available information regarding student retention and graduation rates:

In Fall 2023, there were 111 first time first year students enrolled in JMS. Of those students, 92.8% continued into the second year. SDSU wide, 90.5% of students continue into their second year.

Of the first time first year students enrolled in Journalism & Media Studies in Fall 2020, 83.1% graduated in 4 years. Campus wide, 60.9% of first time first year students graduated in 4 years.
