When Najla Kayyem (‘01) looks at her career, she gives a lot of credit to her time at SDSU.

According to a 2024 Yale law journal, the U.S. incarcerates a higher percentage of its population than any other country. The need for change is great, and higher education within prison can address this need, and, in fact, has already started to do so.

Growing up in Tijuana, Mexico, JMS alumna Ana Ceballos (‘14) relied on the news to feel more at ease with the violence in her hometown. Staying informed empowered her, and her curiosity and awareness eventually became her passion.

The United States Navy selected Jereal Dorsey (‘09), APR+M, an active duty public affairs officer in the United States Navy and alumnus of the School of Journalism and Media Studies’ Public Affairs Officers graduate program, for a promotion to rear admiral (lower half). If confirmed by the Senate, Dorsey would be the third JMS graduate to become flag officer.

When Jeff Lewis (JMS ‘11) was in high school, the sound of laughter was often accompanied by the use of his video camera to create lighthearted videos.

As most college students get into the spirit of giving at the end of the fall semester, 15 San Diego State University seniors recently celebrated spending the entire semester doing that for two non-profit organizations.
