Mariah Hugo Named PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties New Pro of the Year
Mariah Hugo, a class of 2020 graduate and part of the inaugural Broom Student Fellows cohort, earned the distinction of being San Diego's new PR pro of the year.
As a part of the 2021 Edward L. Bernays Awards of Excellence from PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties, Hugo received the recognition from the chapter.
Using a Broom Center grant which sponsored her transitional membership from PRSSA to PRSA, Hugo immediately became active in the San Diego chapter. Since May 2020, Hugo has volunteered for the mentorship committee with the local PRSA chapter. As the mentorship coordinator, she helped the program transition during the pandemic to a virtual format and created mentoring pairs for 40 participants.
She continued that support in 2021, and is slated to join the PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties board of directors next year as an associate new pro board member.
"Mariah did not skip a beat after graduation," said Broom Center director Dr. Kaye Sweetser, APR+M, Fellow PRSA. "With the ink barely dry on her diploma, she immediately jumped head first into PRSA. She started making an impact day 1. It means so much to us to see one of the first Broomies continue Dr. Glen Broom's legacy of mentoring and receive this award from PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties."
Hugo is currently a junior account executive at Katz & Associates in San Diego.
