How Gen Z can save the world
Gen Z has been repeating their list of demands for brands again and again, with that cry getting louder each time.
Brand neutrality is no longer an option. Silence is complacency.
- 70% of consumers expect brands to take a stand on important issues.
- 54% of people feel brands should take an active role in the social conversation.
- 67% of Gen Z respondents say how well a company delivers on their commitments to Black Lives Matter will influence future brand purchases.
This isn’t just about consumers though. It is also about employees. More of the workforce says they want to work for companies whose values reflect their own.
While the data does seem to show a generational shift, Gen Z does not want to wait until the next generation to see social change. They want to challenge the system from within their institutions.
How do we use our voices?
Given how many brands participated in #BlackOutTuesday, it seems like companies are open to taking a stand. But how can communicators inside an organization help their companies in crafting messages? Words alone are not enough. How can you ensure your company will follow through on the promises made?
Troy Blackwell Jr. has some ideas. As PRWeek’s Most Purposeful Person Under 30, he knows what he is talking about.
On Thursday, March 11, the Broom Center hosts the fourth annual Allen H. Center Distinguished Lecture in Public Relations featuring Blackwell. By partnering with the Public Relations Society of America, the virtual event is aimed at future communicators.
Blackwell’s keynote will harness his own experience from jump-starting diversity pipeline initiatives with more than 50 companies. The Obama White House comms team alum will discuss:
- Do’s and don’ts of being an advocate in your company
- Activating a company’s sense of purpose
- Challenging organizations to take a stand
Register today for the Broom Center’s fourth annual Allen H. Center Distinguished Lecture in Public Relations. This spring we’re helping communicators use their voices within their organizations to advocate for change on important issues on behalf of their companies. Join us on March 11, 2021 when Troy Blackwell Jr. goes online to break down your playbook for change in this free and open lecture series.
