Bio
Ivan Fernandez is a journalism lecturer at San Diego State University. He is also the Weekend Editor at L.A. Taco, a James Beard award-winning news site.
He has more than 20 years of professional experience as a writer, editor and photographer. His work focuses on coverage of the arts, culture, history, politics, and sports, with a unique emphasis on Latin America and its U.S. diaspora.
He is an SDSU alum ('23) whose research focused on the ethnography of association football (soccer) fandoms/fans through the complex and intersectional relationships between the sport, art, culture, history, and politics as a means of creating and influencing such fandoms.
He has also worked for/been published in The Guardian, FLAUNT, De Los (Los Angeles Times), LAist, L.A. Public Press, The Latino Newsletter, Coachella CAMP Magazine, LA Weekly, Remezcla, Red Bull Panamérika and others.
