What inspired you to become a professor?
I always had the dream of being a professor when I was young, probably due to some family influence because both of my parents are professors. But I got a more concrete idea of what it means to be a professor when I was in graduate school. I also enjoy working with students and helping them succeed.
What is your favorite part about working at JMS?
I really enjoy the inclusive environment of JMS. Working at JMS means working with people with all different fun ideas. I also appreciate that JMS is providing me with a lot of helpful resources.
What classes do you teach and what is your research about?
I am now teaching JMS 428, JMS 560, and JMS 506. My primary research interests include digital and interactive advertising, new media technologies and consumer psychology. I am particularly interested in consumers’ feeling of control and autonomy when they are interacting with media and advertising messages. I think having control and autonomy is especially important in the age of AI.
What advice do you give your students?
I always tell students don't be afraid of trying new things, open yourself to different opportunities, even though it's something you're not familiar with.
What is your proudest moment since being at SDSU?
My proudest moment is when I was chosen as the Most Influential Faculty Member in Spring 2024. I am very grateful for this recognition as I am dedicated to student success and this motivates me to continue supporting students from diverse populations!
