About our School

The School of Journalism and Media Studies offers nationally accredited programs that prepare undergraduate students for careers in a wide range of media-related jobs. Our graduate students enhance their careers in mass communication and in learning design and technology, with graduates going on to pursue doctorates or furthering their professional careers in the media.

National Accreditation

Our undergraduate programs in advertising, journalism, media studies and public relations are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, putting us among the elite journalism and media schools nationwide that hold this specialized accreditation.

Proven Results

While our high-quality programs are rigorous, we offer students careful academic advising, resulting in strong retention and graduation rates that are higher than the SDSU average for these metrics.

Innovative Culture

We are constantly innovating, creating new courses to keep our students and faculty on the cutting edge of changes in the media professions. At the same time, we remain true to the research-based theoretical principles that undergird our professional fields.

Location

San Diego is one of the largest U.S. cities and is situated in a strategically important location--the U.S.-Mexico border. As such, we are able to use the city as a living lab for our students to gain and practice skills that will equip them to have a successful career in any location in the world. At the same time, as the premiere School of Journalism and Media Studies in the region, we are able to offer access to our students to major media outlets, further enhancing their career readiness from the moment they leave our program.
