JMS Lecturer Wins Emmy

June 15, 2016

JMS Lecturer Wins Emmy Professor Louis Weiner won an Emmy from the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The NATAS Pacific Southwest region includes San Diego, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. For the newscast awards, the entries are split by market. Professor Weiner (along with his news director Dean Elwood and executive producer Barbara Richards) won under the category Evening Newscast-Large Market (which incorporates San Diego and Las Vegas) for their show “Fugitive Arrest.” This involved the case of Jeremy Green, who shot and killed his wife after a marriage counseling session. Green fled to Mexico and the Emmy-winning newscast showed him turning himself in at the border.
