Ms. Lorena N. Ruggero




Lorena Nava Ruggero has lectured in the School of Journalism and Media Studies since 2008. She has taught JMS 481 (Public Relations Media and Messaging) and the lab for JMS 581 (Applied Research in Public Relations). She is currently director of college and community relations at Grossmont College, managing all internal and external public relations and marketing efforts. Previously, Professor Ruggero worked for the Associated Students of SDSU as its marketing and communications manager. She also advised the A.S. Marketing and Communications Committee, which received the 2012-13 Aztec Achievement Award for Most Improved Board or Committee. From 2005 to 2012, Professor Ruggero worked in the SDSU Marketing & Communications Department, where she helped launch SDSU NewsCenter, the online source for SDSU news, and the university’s YouTube channel. In 2008, she was honored for her communications work during the 2007 wildfires with a Top 25 Award from the SDSU Office of the President. Professor Ruggero is a two-time alumna of San Diego State University, having graduated cum laude with a degree in communication, emphasis in public relations, in 2004, and a master’s degree in mass communication and media studies in 2011. She was named the 2004 Public Relations Graduate of the Year, and she received an Inez Kaiser Graduate Student of Color Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2008.
