Glen M. Broom Center for Professional Development in Public Relations

The Glen M. Broom Center for Professional Development in Public Relations supports faculty research in public relations, student internships and scholarships, and trainings and seminars for working professionals.

The center honors professor emeritus Dr. Glen Broom, who forever changed the face of public relations during his 30-year career at San Diego State University, teaching public relations and chairing the Department of Journalism from 1989 to 1995.

While at SDSU, Dr. Broom published more than 50 scholarly articles and papers. He is also known for his co-authorship of Cutlip and Center’s Effective Public Relations, the definitive textbook used in public relations classrooms worldwide. In 1987, Dr. Broom received the prestigious Pathfinder Award from the Institute for Public Relations for his lifetime of contributions to public relations research. He also was named 1991 Outstanding Educator by the Public Relations Society of America.

Although Dr. Broom retired from SDSU in 2008, he has remained active in the public relations community as a leader and a mentor to a new generation of public relations professionals, faculty and students.

Key founding donors in 2012 to the Glen M. Broom Center include: Scott Allison (Allison + Partners), Gordon Broom (HeplerBroom LLC), Diane Gage Lofgren (Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc.), Scott Pansky (Allison + Partners), MaryLee Sachs (Changing MO LLC), Larry Thomas (retired, The Irvine Company) and Bill Trumpfheller (Nuffer, Smith, Tucker).
