Additional seats added to JMS 300

Because of high student demand, more classroom seats have been added to JMS 300, Principles of Journalism. The class meets from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. MWF in Hepner Hall 130.

Additional sections added in JMS 375 and JMS 408

Because of high student demand, more classroom seats have been added to JMS 375, Media Technology and the Global Environment, and JMS 408, Media and Society, for fall 2008.

JMS 375 will meet at the same time, 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. MWF, but the lecture classroom has been changed to Hepner Hall 130. JMS 408 will meet at the same time, 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. MWF, and in the same classroom, GMCS 333. For more details, please see the online class schedule:

JMS 550

Journalism students may take this class only if they have completed the following courses, with a C or better: JMS 420 and one of the following three courses: JMS 315, JMS 430, or JMS 445. If you have completed these prerequisites and the computer will still not let you register, please call JMS Advising Coordinator Lanie Lockwood at 594-2521. Don't worry: If your catalog year requires JMS 550 and you have met the prerequisites, you are guaranteed a seat in the classes. (Please do not call the Registrar's Office. You will just be referred to the JMS Advising Office.)

JMS 461 and JMS 560

Advertising majors: JMS 461 and JMS 560 require completion of JMS 310W and JMS 460 with grades of C or better. The computer will not let you register for JMS 461 and JMS 560 if you have not fulfilled these prerequisites. If you believe you have completed the prerequisites and the computer will still won't allow you to register, please call JMS Advising Coordinator Lanie Lockwood at 594-2521. Don't worry: If you meet the requirements, you are guaranteed a seat in the classes. (Please do NOT call the Registrar's Office. You will just be referred to the JMS Advising Office.)

IMC majors: You will be admitted to JMS 461 and JMS 560 only on a space-available basis beginning the first day of classes. Please take a copy of your transcript, which shows completion of JMS 460 and entrance to the IMC major, to the first class meeting and talk to your instructor.

Media Studies majors

Two courses from Educational Technology have been added to the "Discovery of the Media" section of your major requirements. EDTEC 540 and EDTEC 541 are now options for you. Both classes will be small and are being offered in the evenings, making them great options as you register for the fall semester.

Guaranteed seats

The School of JMS wants to help you graduate on time and so guarantees a seat for you in the required, sequential classes in your major, as long as you successfully meet the prerequisites. If you meet all of the prerequisites, which usually means completion of previous courses with a grade of C or better, you will be guaranteed a place in these required major classes:
  • Advertising students: JMS 310W, JMS 461, JMS 560, JMS 565
  • Journalism students: JMS 310W, JMS 420, JMS 315 or 430 or 445 (choice of one), JMS 470, JMS 550
  • Media Studies students: JMS 412, JMS 450, JMS 492
  • Public Relations students: JMS 310W, JMS 481, JMS 581, JMS 585
