New digital and social media skills classes available

New digital and social media skills classes availableThe School of Journalism & Media Studies is now offering JMS students a full range of elective, one-unit courses in digital and social media skills. Up to three units of these courses may count toward your major.

By collaborating with the SDSU College of Extended Studies, the School is offering the courses for an additional fee to matriculated JMS students, who register through a special process. These elective courses complement, rather than replace, existing courses in digital media currently offered in the School of JMS. You are not required to take the new courses. The School of JMS is offering them as JMS electives, based on strong student support for the concept in focus groups and a survey of JMS students conducted in December 2010.

The one-unit elective courses are currently part of an SDSU certificate program in digital and social media, offered to media professionals in the community. JMS students may enroll in the classes, as well. Most courses meet once a week for four weeks. Classes are scheduled during the evenings or on Saturday mornings. Fall 2011 course offerings will include:

Publishing on the Web
Audio and Slideshow Production
Beginning Social Media
Advanced Social Media
Video Production for the Web I
Video Production for the Web II
Increasing Traffic to Your Website

Spring 2012 course offerings will include all of these courses, plus:
Photo Editing with Photoshop

JMS students will be asked to follow a special process to register for the classes, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
