Welcome to Fall 2017!

August 28, 2017

Another summer has passed and a new semester has started at San Diego State. We start off this semester with exciting news that Dr. Kaye Sweetser has been promoted to Professor.

On Friday, August 25, 2017 first time freshman and incoming students moved into the on-campus residence halls. The School of Journalism & Media Studies has a Residential Learning Community in Maya and Olmeca Halls.

The students who live on the JMS floor learn more about advertising, journalism, public relations and other professional media fields. Participants undertake activities and seminars focused on the media industry and get a broad look at the opportunities in these professional communication fields. Students in this community are typically enrolled in Journalism and Media Studies 200 and University Seminar. The University Seminar class meets once a week for an hour and is taught by Dr. Bey-Ling Sha.

Each residence hall has a faculty member who lives in the building and is a resource for the students. This year Maya and Olmeca are lucky enough to have Dr. Nathian Rodriguez as their Faculty in Residence! Dr. Nate and Professor Peattie were on hand to greet students and family members as they settled into their new homes.

Campus was bustling with students, as they moved from class to class. Below are some of the first day sights from inside the SJMS classrooms.
