JMS Students Receive Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Region 11

Two JMS students, Anthony Berteaux and Quinn Owen, have been recognized for their work by the Society of Professional Journalists as 2015 Mark of Excellence Award finalists and winners from Region 11. The awards recognize the best of collegiate journalism with Region 11 being comprised of schools in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada. First-place winners will be moving on to the national MOE competition where they will vie for the national honor against category winners from all 12 SPJ regions.
Berteaux was named a finalist in the category of online opinion and commentary. Owen was named twice in the category of radio news reporting. His report “Rated No. 1 Courtney Conlogue seeks World Championship Title” won the category and “Preventing juvenile detention with a blank canvas and a can of spray paint” was named a finalist.
