Marcie Bober-Michel, Ph.D. HeadshotMarcie Bober-Michel is professor of and Area Coordinator/Graduate Advisor for Learning Design and Technology (LDT), a master's program now housed in the School of Journalism and Media Studies; between June 2005 and July 2014, she served as LDT Department Chair. With expertise in applied research and evaluation, Dr. Bober-Michel teaches field-based courses where students work directly with community-based clients (San Diego Zoo Global, Rady Children’s Hospital, Jack in the Box, Qualcomm, Mission Trails Regional Park, International Rescue Committee) to design, develop, implement, and research (or evaluate) learning opportunities.

Dr. Bober-Michel has long served as lead evaluator on several federal grants targeting our public schools—for the most part, initiatives to stimulate effective use of advanced technologies in the classroom and positively influence student learning and workforce readiness. Other initiatives have focused on student performance in and receptivity to hybrid and fully online courses, ways in which delivery mode affects student responses on end-of-course surveys, and strategies by which San Diego Unified teachers involved in School in the Park integrate their students’ hands-on learning experiences at Balboa Park museums into classroom activities.

Dr. Bober-Michel presents at conferences centered on techniques to improve individual and organizational performance; she also consults with corporations, nonprofits, and professional associations interested in assessing technology’s impact on productivity, creativity, risk-taking, morale, and group interactions. Her most recent publication is Fieldbook of ibstpi Evaluator Competencies (2014, Information Age Publishing), co-authored with Drs. Darlene Russ-Eft, Tiffany Koszalka, and Catherine Sleezer.
