About Our School
The School of Journalism and Media Studies offers nationally accredited programs that prepare undergraduate students for careers in advertising, journalism, public relations, and media. Our graduate students enhance their careers in mass communication and in learning design and technology, and many graduate students go on to pursue their doctorates.
Our undergraduate programs in advertising, journalism, and public relations are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, putting us among the elite 25% of journalism schools nationwide that hold this specialized accreditation.
While our high-quality programs are rigorous, we offer students careful academic advising, resulting in strong retention and graduation rates that are higher than the SDSU average for these metrics.
We are constantly innovating, creating new courses and special topics courses to keep our students and faculty on the cutting edge of changes in the media professions. In the last two years, our new classes have included:
- Social Media Community Leadership
- Digital and Social Media Analytics
- Writing for Spanish-language and Latino Media
- Fashion Public Relations
- Media and Sports
- Media and Politics
- Games, Play and Learning
At the same time, we remain true to the research-based theoretical principles that undergird our professional fields.
