Mei Zhong is assistant professor at the School of Communication, San Diego State University. She received her Ph. D. in communication studies from Kent State University in 1996. She taught communication at Doane College, NE and Iowa State University before joining the SDSU faculty in Fall 1999. She has taught intercultural communication at both the graduate and undergraduate level during the past few years and nonverbal communication at the undergraduate level in Fall 2003.

Her research specialty is intercultural communication with a focus on the Chinese culture and communication phenomena. A special research interest is interpersonal communication of the only-child generation in the People's Republic of China. Her works have appeared in journals such as Communication Studies, the Howard Journal of Communication, Human Communication, etc.

Zhong is also involved in several international exchange programs. In 2001 and 2002, she taught Intercultural Communication in China and led two groups of SDSU students to the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. She is currently in charge of this program, along with two other exchange programs between SDSU and Hebei and Anhui Universities in China.
