Envision San Diego

Envision San Diego is a media partnership designed to facilitate
community-wide discussion on the issues of greatest importance to the
region leading to meaningful reform. Founded by SDSU's International
Center for Communications, KPBS and SignOnSanDiego.com, Envision San
Diego's media partnership now has over 15 members from across the media
spectrum. The partnership is supported by a growing alliance of
concerned citizens, community leaders, corporations and civic
organizations. Our goal is not to duplicate the efforts of
existing organizations, but to partner with those already working in
the community, help give their efforts broader visibility, and provide
the momentum to move some of the most pressing issues to the forefront
of public debate leading to action in our region.

Friends of Journalism & Media Studies
Be part of the newsroom of the future
- Take San Diego State University graduates with
careers in journalism, public relations, and advertising, and join them
into one organization.
- Use the organization to help foster relationships
among the different disciplines and unite veteran journalists and
communications professionals with newcomers to their respective
professions.
- Use these relationships to create a network of
resources and support for San Diego State University.
These objectives are the reason for the creation of
the Friends of Journalism & Media Studies Chapter of the San Diego
State University Alumni Association.
Our members come from print, broadcast, and online
journalism, academia, public relations, and advertising in the public
and private sector.
Our goals are ambitious: Creating under one roof an
interdisciplinary environment where all sectors of the media world can
interact in real-world conditions – the newsroom of the future, here
and now at San Diego State University.
Print, online, broadcast, public relations,
advertising, sales and management students would be able to learn and
practice their professional skills.
But that’s not the end of our ambitions. Our Chapter
wants to provide members as well as students with professional
development programs that will help improve your skills and advance
your careers.
Of course, we need your time, talent and money to
make it happen. Please consider becoming an “SDSU Media Friend” today.

SDSU International Center for Communications
The International Center for Communications is an idea and an
institution which joins the concepts of "communications" and
"community" in creating a new program of research, study and community
service, a vision of a Pacific Community, and a new American gateway to
the Asia-Pacific region. The underlying mission of the Center is to
redefine traditional notions of community locally and globally, and
explore ways to link those communities together through the application
of communications technology, and by adherence to the principles of
free trade and the free flow of information. This vision is focused on
the extricable link between communications, social and economic
development and the fundamental importance of rebuilding local
communities and defining new national and regional
communities--essenital elements in the development of the world
community originally envisioned by author Marshall McLuhan.
The Center has developed special competence and concentration on
communications developments in the Pacific region. Through its programs
of research, study and community service, the institution serves as
both a forum for discussing the emerging issues, and a laboratory for
applying the knowledge and experience of modern communications
technology technique. It has created an atmosphere in which the
academic and the practical can be joined to help resolve problems,
specifically in the Pacific Area, but with worldwide relevance.
