The School of Journalism & Media Studies at San Diego State University has opened a state-of-the-art digital media lab for its students.

Broom Center campaign set to launch

JMS students launch mobile news app

AzteCastA group of enterprising journalism students worked together with a group of computer science students in spring 2012 to produce an innovative digital media product called “AzteCast.”

AzteCast is a free mobile news app that provides information about campus events to faculty, staff and students at SDSU. The application allows for members of the campus community to contribute to the product, making it a collaborative news experience. (more…)

JMS to offer new digital media literacy course

JMS 296The School of Journalism & Media Studies will offer a new university-wide course in digital media literacy beginning fall semester 2012.

JMS 296, an experimental topics course whose formal title is Social Media in the Digital Age, is part of the School’s strategic initiative to further both the School’s and the University’s reputation as the region’s established leader in digital and social media education and training. (more…)

JMS students make national headlines

Sandy Coronilla, Holly Pablo and Antonio MoralesAlthough Sandra Coronilla had known for a few days, it wasn’t until 11:44 a.m. on July 5 that it became real.

The Society of Professional Journalists posted a tweet to its 11,800-plus followers: “Congrats to @SandraCoronilla for winning this year’s Robert D.G. Lewis First Amendment Award!”

Almost immediately, congratulatory notes began to flood in from across the country. (more…)

Hodgson photos find a home on JMS website

JMS alum Sam HodgsonThe School of Journalism & Media Studies is updating its website this summer to display the photography of one of its alums, Sam Hodgson. The School asked Hodgson to return to the San Diego State University campus to take photos of current JMS students and faculty, as well as SDSU landmarks such as Love Library, for display on the School’s website and auxiliary pages.
