JMCQ publishes Shen article

Aug 10, 2011

Hongmei Shen of the School of Journalism & Media StudiesThe scholarly journal, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, has published an article by JMS faculty member Hongmei Shen. The article, “Organization-employee relationship maintenance strategies: A new measuring instrument,” was published in the Summer 2011 issue of the journal (Volume 88, Issue 2).

The purpose of Dr. Shen’s study was twofold: (1) to develop a valid and reliable new way to measure relationship-maintenance strategies as they relate to organization-employee relationships, and (2) to explore how organizations build relationships with internal publics. The study found that organizations utilized four factors – openness, assurances of legitimacy, networking, and compromising – to a larger extent than they used “distributive negotiation” and “avoiding” to build relationships with their employees.
