Journal publishes Arceneaux article

WOR 1938The scholarly Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media has published an article by JMS faculty member Noah Arceneaux in its September 2011 issue (Volume 55, Number 3).

The article, “Radio Facsimile Newspapers of the 1930s and ‘40s,” documents a form of media that has been almost entirely forgotten. In the years before and after World War II, dozens of radio stations and newspapers collaborated to produce “radio-faxpapers.” (more…)

PRSA honors Dr. David Dozier

Dr. David Dozier honoredJMS Professor Dr. David Dozier received the Otto Bos Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th annual Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Awards ceremony, sponsored by the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

More than 200 local PR practitioners attended the awards ceremony at the Bali Hai Restaurant on Shelter Island on Oct. 6. Each year, the local PRSA chapter recognizes the best public relations tactics, campaigns and professionals in the San Diego region. (more…)

Coates Nee named JMS assistant professor

Coates Nee named JMS assistant professorRebecca Coates Nee has joined the faculty of the School of Journalism & Media Studies as an assistant professor. Her teaching and research are in the field of journalism and digital communication.

In fall semester, she is teaching JMS 375, Media Technology in the Global Environment; JMS 420, Public Affairs News Reporting; and JMS 550, Multimedia Journalism Laboratory. (more…)

JMCQ publishes Shen article

Hongmei Shen of the School of Journalism & Media StudiesThe scholarly journal, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, has published an article by JMS faculty member Hongmei Shen. The article, “Organization-employee relationship maintenance strategies: A new measuring instrument,” was published in the Summer 2011 issue of the journal (Volume 88, Issue 2).

The purpose of Dr. Shen’s study was twofold: (1) to develop a valid and reliable new way to measure relationship-maintenance strategies as they relate to organization-employee relationships, and (2) to explore how organizations build relationships with internal publics. The study found that organizations utilized four factors – openness, assurances of legitimacy, networking, and compromising – to a larger extent than they used “distributive negotiation” and “avoiding” to build relationships with their employees.
